Dimension Data executive exits to lead ANZ technology division

Tech veteran tasked with building out the bank’s technology strategy.

ANZ has appointed Gerard Florian as group executive of technology, tasking the Dimension Data veteran to build out the bank’s technology strategy.

Effective January 30, Sydney-based Florian will be charged with defining ANZ’s technology strategy across the country, while managing the company’s internal infrastructure.

As part of the Group Executive Committee, Florian will take control of the development of new technologies to support improved customer outcomes and business revenues, including implementing existing technologies and creating new systems and processes.

After joining Dimension Data in 2003, Florian took up the role of CTO, while also covering the marketing aspects of the business in a CMO role, before helping build out the company’s cloud business at a national level.

Most recently, Florian was chief strategy officer, responsible for managing strategy across the company’s ITaaS Service Unit.

“Gerard’s appointment together with the appointment of Maile Carnegie as Group Executive Digital Banking earlier this year, highlights the critical importance of technology to transforming ANZ to compete effectively in the digital age,” ANZ CEO, Shayne Elliott, said.

“Increasingly technology is redefining our business and our relationship with customers.

“Gerard’s leadership skills and his background in technology including cloud computing make him ideally suited to oversee the strategic shift that we need to make.”

As part of the change CIO, Scott Collary, will leave ANZ later this month.

“Scott has made a very strong contribution since he joined us in 2014,” Elliott added.

“He has established great working relationships between technology and our businesses, continued to strengthen reliability and efficiency of ANZ’s systems, and built a cohesive team and culture within technology.”
