The Australian Navy has opened the door to a five-year IT systems overhaul, inviting channel partners to modernise its information management tools.
Starting on July 1, 2017, the tender follows plans to modernise navy information management systems (NIMS), as part of a wider technology strategy.
As a bespoke suite of applications, NIMS gather and manipulate a range of classified and sensitive business intelligence and warfighting data.
Currently functional, the applications are in daily use by naval personnel and are used to generate confidential information requiring to be appropriately stored and safeguarded.
“To remain effective these applications require ongoing maintenance and development,” the expression of interest stated.
According to the tender, key services include the provision of software development and maintenance activities, help desk services for users of NIMs and be able to transition the Delphi developed apps to other widely supported languages.
In addition, there will be a requirement to improve the ready access to and use of information across the organisation, utilising technologies such as big data.
Upon completion, the finished project will have achieved the initial design of a service management framework, ongoing maintenance services and the creation of a standardised information framework.
According to documents, the tender closes on October 31.
