The IT partners behind NSW child protection IT system upgrade

MuleSoft and Salesforce along with its partners selected for $100 million IT upgrade

The NSW Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) has chosen MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform and Salesforce as the lead IT partner in the development of a $100 million upgrade to the NSW child protection IT system.

The new program, ChildStory replaces a number of existing IT systems with one integrated platform. It will hold vital information of a child’s history with FACS including case plans, health records, education, photos and special events.

MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform will play a key role in integrating the organisation’s Cloud and on-premise systems, creating a hybrid approach that aims to decrease the complexity of dealing with multiple government systems for real-time information.

“To deliver ChildStory we have chosen technology partners who have demonstrated that they understood the challenge and had the right technology to support child protection in NSW,” ChildStory program director, Lisa Alonso Love, said.

There is also a range of Salesforce partners involved in ChildStory including CloudFirst, TigerSpike, CloudSense, Conga and Squiz.

Salesforce public sector regional vice-president, Barry Dietrich, said through collaborating with its partners and FACS staff, it will provide a custom build of its Service Cloud capabilities.

"Real time information sharing and collaboration will mean case workers spend more time protecting children with the most relevant and up to date information," Dietrich said.

“Crucial to Salesforce's selection as the lead technology partner is our ability to put children, families and case workers at the centre of the design of the ChildStory platform. Through collaboration with Salesforce partners and FACS frontline staff, Salesforce will provide a custom build of our Service Cloud capabilities, which will empower caseworkers, service providers, families, carers and children with a digital toolkit that will transform the overall delivery of child protection."

Salesforce was selected after a rigorous procurement process, which included a four-month implementation study, during which Salesforce worked closely with Department of Family and Community Services staff.

After an extensive period of research, design and prototyping, ChildStory will move into the deployment phase, with the first release of the tool planned to be deployed to caseworkers in early 2017.
