Fujitsu has been appointed as the managed services provider (MSP) of the City of Gold Coast’s ICT Infrastructure and Applications in a $140 million, five-and-a-half year contract.
The investment sees Fujitsu transform the local government by transforming its ICT infrastructure to Cloud services and the company will support and manage all systems and applications.
The transition is underway and expected to be fully operational by June 1.
The partnership will see Fujitsu implement an end-to-end suite of managed infrastructure and applications services from a combination of onsite, onshore and offshore delivery and will provide after-hours service desk support.
Fujitsu will also partner with Optus and local Gold Coast Internet services provider, Onthenet, to provide the telecommunications and WAN services to support the contract.
According to the company, the principal benefit of the partnership is its consumption-based approach that supports a suffice response to peaks and troughs in demand.
City of Gold Coast chief executive, Dale Dickson, said the contract will transform the way the local government operates and in turn, customer experience.
“Our partnership with Fujitsu will offer flexibility in the way we consume ICT services and will also allow us to leverage a proven delivery model that is responsive to peaks and troughs in demand.”
Dickson added that the partnership will accelerate the progress of the ‘Digital Gold Coast’ agenda that is focused on ‘making lives easier and more connected’ and businesses more efficient and globally competitive through the use of new technologies.
“We went through a very thorough evaluation process and Fujitsu’s response was assessed as being the most advantageous to Council in terms of both capability and price,” he continued.

“This is a significant expansion of our existing relationship for Fujitsu. We are proud to be contributing to the technology-driven improvements in services being delivered to the residents of the Gold Coast and our commitment to create 100 jobs on the Gold Coast over the next 18 months,” Foster added.
