Mobile payment peripheral manufacturer, Square, has announced retail availability of its product, Square Reader, in Apple, Bunnings and Officeworks stores.
Square Australian Country Manager, Ben Pfisterer says selling through the retail channel provides multiple options for small business owners to purchase the product.
Pfisterer says the reader will be sold at 490 locations in Australia through the three retail partners and direct through the company’s website with the card reader smartphone and tablet attachment available from a RRP of $19.
"Businesses shouldn't have to wait weeks to be sent a card payment terminal, or spend valuable time on the phone registering for an account and completing long, arduous application forms," he says.
"They shouldn’t have to be worried about their terminal going down and having to wait days for a replacement.”
First launched in Australia in March, the reader works with major credit cards Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
However, the main inhibitor to widespread adoption for the reader is likely to be the 1.9 per cent surcharge incurred when paying via the platform.
