Apple Pay hitting Oz this year

Via American Express first

In discussing the company’s fourth quarter results, Apple CEO, Tim Cook, revealed Australians will get access to its tap-to-pay service by the end of this year.

When it’s launched, Apple Pay will first be limited to American Express users.

Canadians will also have access to it at the same time as Australians and it will also be rolled out to Hong Kong, Singapore and Spain early next year.

The take up of the mobile payment service still has a fair bit to go, with a recent report indicating that the adoption of Apple Pay was slow one year after its initial launch in the US.

According to research from Aite Group, the service accounts for about one per cent of total transactions in the US.

In fiscal 2015 fourth quarter ending September 26, Apple's quarterly revenue was $US51.5 billion and quarterly net profit of $US11.1 billion.

International sales accounted for 62 percent of the quarter’s revenue with growth fueled by record fourth quarter sales of iPhone, the expanded availability of Apple Watch, Mac sales and revenue from services.
