Energy management and automation company, Schneider Electric, has been selected by UN Women to join the HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 pilot group due to the company’s commitment to gender equality.

HeForShe is a global solidarity movement that calls upon men and boys to take action and advocate for gender equality. UN Women accelerates the movement with a new initiative: IMPACT 10x10x10. This project aims to involve 10 governments, 10 companies and 10 universities worldwide in the movement, so as to create an initial pilot group.

Some of the companies already on board the IMPACT 10x10x10 pilot group are the Accor Hotels, the Koç Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Tupperware Brands, and Unilever.

The selection of Schneider Electric comes following the 2015 leadership award that it won for its action in favour of gender equality, as part of the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEP) from UN Women and the Global Compact.

Schneider Electric chief human resources officer, Olivier Blum, said as part of the program, the company aims to increase the representation of women in the business pipeline, implement a salary equity process and involve group leaders worldwide to create a governance body dedicated to the program by 2017.

Blum added that by the end of 2017, it intends to have a 40 per cent female representation at entry of new managers and technicians (versus 29 per cent currently), and a 35 per cent increase representation in key positions.

"Our ambition is to become one of the most diverse companies. At Schneider Electric, we value differences and offer equal opportunities to everyone, everywhere. Identifying, developing and attracting female talent is a business imperative and is high on our agenda for the coming years.

“We strongly believe we will make significant progress only if our male employees commit to becoming spokespersons of this transformation by advocating gender equality. Joining and promoting the HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 program is a great opportunity to accelerate our program and contribute to society,” Blum added.
