Hortonworks expands Australia operations in enterprise Hadoop push

Hires several senior sales and technical staff in Australia

Hortonworks is set to significantly expand its Australian operations in a bid to drive adoption of enterprise Hadoop.

The company has hired several senior sales and technical staff in Australia, adding experience from industry-leading vendors.

In addition, the company has established an Asia Pacific regional support centre in Sydney.

The adds to existing hubs in the US, UK and India and rounds out the company’s international customer support network.

Hortonworks international vice-president, Andy Leaver, said Australia and APAC were a key focus for Hortonworks moving forward as a growing number of organisations in the region sought help understanding big data and then taking action to uncover value from that data.

“Hadoop is one of the most important and disruptive technology platforms to emerge in enterprise IT over the past several years," he said.

"It provides both the technology and vibrant developer community to support cost-effective and efficient management of massive data sets while helping organisations extract intelligence from them.”

According to a company statement, Hortonworks’ expanded office and team on the ground in Australia will be to further enable a vibrant ecosystem of partners locally and throughout the region.

This includes Independent Software Vendors (ISV) and System Integrator (SI) ecosystem partners to help organisations take advantage of their big data.
