Internet performance and security company, CloudFlare, has picked datacentre-as-a-service provider, NextDC (ASX:NXT), as its new datacentre partner. The company joins other vendors in housing its data on NextDC’s M1 datacentre.

CloudFlare’s deployment in Melbourne marks its 34th datacentre globally, and its third in Oceania following deployments in Sydney and Auckland, New Zealand.

According to CloudFlare director of special projects, Joshua Motta, adding a new datacentre in Melbourne is just one more way the company is improving the speed and reliability of its two million customers’ applications in the Oceania region.

Motta claimed with more than five per cent of global Web requests passing through its network each month, CloudFlare needed to expand its next-generation content delivery network (CDN) and security platform.

“CloudFlare is committed to building the world’s most performant and secure network, and our expansion into Melbourne ensures greater performance and content localisation in Australia. We chose NextDC because of its trusted reputation and dense interconnection environment,” he said.

NextDC CEO, Craig Scroggie, mentioned the M1 facility in Port Melbourne is the city’s largest and most connected co-location datacentre, and the presence of international CDN providers like CloudFlare continues to expand and develop the diversity of M1’s ecosystem of carriers and IT service providers.

“CloudFlare’s presence at M1 has opened up new possibilities for Australian organisations doing business internationally, and illustrates the importance to the domestic market of datacentres like M1 that services major IT companies and encourages their investment in Australia,” he added.
