Optus' Paul Sheridan heads up the satellite business.
Optus has signed a new agreement with Foxtel to provide additional satellite services for nine new HD channels on a five-year term.
The new agreement will see Foxtel take up additional capacity on Optus’ D3 satellite to increase the number of high definition (HD) entertainment, sport and educational channels available to Foxtel customers.
This agreement gives customers with an IQ2 or MyStarHD set-top box service and that are currently signed up to an HD package, access to nine new HD channels including Arena, Fox Sports News and History, bringing the total number of Foxtel HD channels available to 36.
Optus vice-president, Optus Satellite, Paul Sheridan, said Foxtel had been an Optus customer for more than 15 years and that the company was pleased to continue working with Optus to provide a broader variety of HD content to Foxtel customers across Australia.
“Optus works closely with customers such as Foxtel to design the highest quality satellite services to meet customers’ specific needs,” Sheridan said.
Foxtel was the first customer to take capacity on the Optus D3 satellite when it launched in 2009.
The D3 satellite was the first use of the Broadcast Satellite Service (BSS) spectrum in Australia and is the only satellite in the Optus fleet to operate exclusively as a broadcast satellite.
