Internet services provider (ISP), iiNet, has acquired a 60 per cent stake in the privately-owned Tech2 Group from company founder, Glen Powys, for an undisclosed amount.

iiNet said Tech2 gives it complementary focus on customer service, a new sales channel, and accelerated support capabilities, particularly around National Broadband Network (NBN) services.

Commenting on the deal, iiNet chief executive officer (CEO), David Buckingham, said, “The partnership with Tech2 Group will allow us to both extend our brand and provide a more comprehensive service to our customers.”

“Importantly, there is a strong cultural alignment between iiNet and Tech2 Group on the approach to customer service and focus on NPS.”

Powys added that iiNet’s investment will accelerate Tech2’s growth plans.

“We believe the transaction provides added benefits to Tech2 Group’s customers and staff as we draw on iiNet’s experience, scale and support.”

Tech2 is a provider of communications build services, remote and on-site technical support and installation services to residents and businesses in Australia. It employs 650 staff and contractors across its ‘tech2home’, ‘tech2business’, and ‘gizmo’ brands, as well as its telecommunications infrastructure unit.

Tech2home provides connection services for home entertainment products, and provides PC and tablet support services over the phone. Tech2business delivers national field and call centre-based technology solutions for business customers.

Gizmo serves as the support layer, providing over-the-phone services covering networking, repairs and Cloud solutions to consumers and SMBs.

Tech2’s NBN play comes by way of telecommunications infrastructure build, connection, and installation for NBN Co and other providers.
