Criminals beware - Robocop could be on the Australian beat and banging at your door sooner than you think.
Forcite have unveiled a police helmet system that provides officers with enhanced communication abilities, active footage streaming and number plate recognition all displayed in the head up display of the helmet.
This technology will allow motorcycle officers who are often first on the scene in congested CBD areas all over the world to properly respond to emergency situations.
The helmet, designed by University of NSW student Alfred Boyadgis, is just one of innovative designs on display at a free pop-up exhibition in the Rocks, Sydney.
Other designs include a computer game controller designed specifically for children with cerebral palsy, an artificial reef system to combat coral bleaching and a specially designed Indian Slum Toilet.
The Good Design Lounge, part of VIVID Sydney 2014, is open to the public for the next two weeks and will showcase the creations of finalists in the 2014 Hills Young Australian Design Awards.
The Hills Young Australian Design Awards is a new national design award created to inspire the next generation of Australian designers and thinkers and to help foster a culture of design, ingenuity and creativity in Australia.
Hills Ltd CEO Ted Pretty said he was delighted the company that pioneered one of Australia's greatest inventions – the Hills Hoist – is supporting the design stars of tomorrow.
"The ingenuity, creativity and talent on display is inspiring and testament to Australia’s innovation potential," he said.
“But these awards are not just about clever ideas, they are about connecting young designers with leading industry players, giving them mentoring opportunities and ultimately, to help them bring their product to market.
Pretty said it was about finding and supporting the best design and innovation talent in Australia.
“As part of the Hills Young Designer of the Year Award, we will be offering the winner an opportunity to work alongside commercial and academic experts in the Hills Innovation Centres that we recently opened in Adelaide to drive ingenuity and bring new ideas and products to market," he said.
“At Hills, we want to unearth and nurture the next big Australian invention that will help transform and change lives.”
