NBN Co targets medium-sized businesses with new services

Medium Business Services promise speeds for high-end applications

NBN Co is looking to enable medium-sized businesses in the utilisation of big business-grade tools with the addition of Medium Business Services to the National Broadband Network (NBN).

The NBN Co claims the new services can support the download and upload speeds required to run high-end applications, including multiline high-definition video conferencing and online backup.

“Access to fast and reliable broadband provides the platform for a host of advanced services that are changing the way that Australians do business,” NBN Co chief customer officer, John Simon, said.

“Cloud-based services, virtual private networks and advanced collaboration through high-definition video are all vital to helping Australian businesses remain competitive in the global digital economy.”

Simon claims that the utilisation of these services can lower operating costs and allow both small and medium-sized businesses to explore new markets.

According to a statement from NBN Co, the Medium Business Services have been “met with enthusiasm” from telecommunications providers.

Both Commander and Macquarie Telecom plan to use the Medium Business Services to offer business-specific options to customers.

“Commander exclusively services the Small and Medium business markets and the new NBN business features are allowing us to deliver big business hosted phone and cloud solutions at competitive prices,” Commander business director, Scott Carter, said.

Macquarie Telecom telco business group executive, Chris Creig, said, “The NBN, together with cloud and mobility, provides opportunity for a dramatic change in business models. We see the combination of these three trends as the key to unlocking the full potential for our customers.”
