Altium relocates R&D and execs to US

US represents 'natural next step' in growth strategy

Electronic design software company, Altium, has relocated its core R&D and PCB CAD division to San Diego, California, a move that also sees the executive and senior management team take up US residence.

The move to relocate to the US is the second major sweeping change for the electronics company in less than three years, after it relocated its global headquarters and core R&D facilities from Sydney to Shanghai, China back in 2011. In the Australian market, sales offices will continue to be maintained.

According to the company, most of the objectives behind the journey to China have been achieved. “China remains an important market for Altium, and is the best location for the company’s Internet of Things [IoT] division.”

Meanwhile, the relocation to San Diego, where Altium has had a long-established sales and operational presence, represents “a natural next step” in the implementation of Altium’s renewed growth strategy.

“It is a result of the focus on PCB design tools and solutions for the PCB design market. The decision was made to allow Altium’s CAD division to be more accessible to customers and partners, while still offering global growth potential,” the company said.

“This move to the US will not only allow Altium to be closer to customers in key markets,” Altium chief sales officer, Martin Harris, said. "It will also provide us the opportunity to work closer with our sales channels and strategic partners as well as with the contributors to our third-party development network, which uses the openness of Altium Designer to develop solutions for our user community."

The company has also fine-tuned its IoT strategy, putting it in alignment with its core development business of the development of PCB design tools.

Founded in 1985, Altium has offices in San Diego, Sydney, Karlsruhe, Shanghai, Tokyo, Kiev, with value added resellers worldwide.
