Empired Ltd sign $46m contract with Main Roads WA

Empired will operate and maintain the core IT infrastructure underpinning Main Roads traffic control and corporate business systems.

IT Services Company, Empired Ltd, has won a $46 million contract to operate and maintain IT infrastructure for one of Western Australia's largest and most critical state-owned assets.

The contract, with Main Road Western Australia, is for a three-year term with one two-year option to extend and will start on November 1 this year.

Empired will operate and maintain the core IT infrastructure underpinning Main Roads traffic control and corporate business systems.

This infrastructure includes the second largest fibre optic network in the state, a range of real time SCADA systems, two high availability data centres (housing over 750 servers for data processing and storage), plus in excess of 2200 workplace devices.

The contract includes an estimated value and effort for a comprehensive program of work to replace and enhance the services provided by the core infrastructure over the coming five years.

The contract follows a recently announced, contract with a major resources company worth $50m, bringing total major contract awards to approximately $96m during the last 2 months.

Main Roads is responsible for Western Australia’s highways and main roads which represent almost 30 per cent of the state’s total assets.

It is also one of the largest geographically spread road agencies in the world, covering 2.5 million sq km.

Empired managing director Russell Baskerville said he was delighted the over the previous five year his company had been recongised by Main Roads as a reliable and innovate partner.

“I am very proud that this reputation has provided Main Roads with the confidence and trust to award Empired a $46m contract that is critical in supporting the efficient operation of one of Western Australia’s largest and most critical state owned assets.”

Main Roads’ Manager Information Management, Mr Geoff Wilson said it was reassuring to award this new contract to Empired as it was the first time that Main Roads had awarded its infrastructure services support to an incumbent since first outsourcing services in 1996.

"This is a testament to the value for money services that Empired have provided to Main Roads over the last five years and the win-win model of engagement," he said.

"Over the next five years Main Roads looks forward to working with Empired as a critical partner to deliver, implement and support our systems for both our corporate network and rapidly growing traffic control systems network.”
