Vodafone calls on local developers to code for a cause

Telco opens registrations for its 2013 App Aid challenge

The Vodafone Foundation is encouraging local developers to enter its 2013 App Aid challenge to assist one of five chosen Australian charities which are developing mobile solutions to service the communities in which they operate.

Five successful agency applicants will be matched with the selected charities and receive funding from the Vodafone Foundation. This will enable them to work collaboratively to develop an app idea and prototype, marketing pitch and business case.

“Vodafone Foundation is proud to be in a position where it can bring charities, developers and members in the mobile and technology industry together to develop solutions which will benefit the community,” Vodafone Foundation head Alyssa Jones said.

“App Aid gives developers a great opportunity to use their ideas and skills for good, as well as set up a bit of healthy competition to test their ability against other agencies.”

The Foundation has partnered with crowd-funding service Pozible to provide a platform for the teams to raise additional capital from the public to deliver the apps to market.

The Foundation also promises to match every dollar raised to a maximum of $10,000, with an additional $10,000 provided to the charity with most backers.

Applications for this year’s challenge opened on September 17, and will close on October 4 at 5:00pm. Charities and developers can register for the initiative via the 2013 App Aid website.
