Cloud giant, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has gone live with its first Australian datacentre, based in Sydney.
Amazon Web Services senior vice president, Andy Jassy, said it can achieve single-digit millisecond latency to users in Sydney and provide the ability to store data locally.
“We expect the launch of AWS’s Sydney region to increase the amount of Australian and New Zealand customers,” Jassy said in a statement.
AWS revealed it had more than 10,000 customers across Australia and New Zealand including Commonwealth Bank, City of Melbourne, Hooroo, RedBalloon, Brandscreen, Viocorp, Domayne, Cotton On, Snapper, PredictWind, Harvey Norman.and MYOB. The datacentre will provide customers with access to services including EC2, Amazon RDS, Amazon CloudFront and S3.
Some of its partners include ASG, Bulletproof Networks, Fronde, Industrie IT, The Frame Group, Melbourne IT, SMS IT and Sourced Group.
AWS has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and will be adding a technical support leg next year.
AWS is the Coud computing arm of Amazon.com.
