Stardeals kicks off Groupon presence in Australia

Groupon claims it has managed to produce millions of dollars in new revenue to local businesses worldwide

Shopping website, Stardeals, has launched its services in Sydney and Melbourne and will expand further in the near future.

Using the principles of collective buying, Stardeals negotiates unprecedented discounts and subscribers receive free daily emails alerting them to the deals. The site is part of the Groupon network.

But there’s a slight catch, the deals are activated only when a minimum number of people agree to buy, encouraging subscribers to share the promotion with family and friends.

“Stardeals will leverage the best practices Groupon has pioneered in more than 40 countries around the globe to change the face of local commerce,” Groupon COO and president, Rob Solomon, said in a statement.

Groupon claims that through guaranteeing a large number of new customers, it has created a marketing vehicle for local merchants.

The company also claims it has produced millions of dollars in new revenue to local businesses while saving more than $1.6 billion for subscribers globally.

“We give consumers unbeatable deals while offering businesses an unprecedented and effective form of marketing.” Stardeals CEO, Alexandra Podeanu, said.

The site will expand to serve eight more territories in coming months.
