NSW exporters of the year include ISVs, integrators, and a specialist in dentistry

Six organisations have been recognised at the forefront of Australian ICT export as nominees for the Premier’s NSW Export Awards 2010.

The six finalists in the ICT category are ISVs Atlassian, Integrated Research and Clarity, and integrator and service providers, CustomWare and Ideas International. The sixth, Stoneglass Industries, offers a range of tailored solutions to the dental industry, including 3D modelling software for teeth.

The winner will be announced at the Awards night on October 28 at Star City Ballroom. The Premier of NSW, Kristina Keneally, will attend.

Furthermore, NSW category winners will moveon to the national finals, to be announced at the Australian Export Awards at Sydney Town Hall on November 16.

Clarity COO, Christopher Smith, said the ISV was very pleased with the result. The company, which provides software dedicated to the operation and management of telecommunications networks, does most of its business in offshore markets.

Currently, 90 per cent of its business transactions are in overseas markets, including Bulgaria, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK and the USA.

The ISV has also recently built an office in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, which it hopes to use as a launching pad for further central and Eastern European expansion.

“We have a sales team all the way from here to the UK,” Smith said.

“The strengthening of the Australian dollar has not had a huge impact on our business as yet.

Sales cycles are from 12-18 months, and while it does mean our solutions are a little more expensive other factors are currently overweighing cost.

“Having local sales teams and partners also helps mitigate against the dollar, as we’re not shipping people from Australia constantly for rollouts.”

Smith identified Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific as the continued core focus for expansion in the short term.
