EDS and SAP boost carbon compliance in enterprises

Vendor partnership to help organisations comply with Government regulatory requirements around carbon emission reporting

EDS and SAP have joined forces to bring an environmental compliance solution to high-end enterprises.

Targeted to assist organisations as they work to comply with the Federal Government emissions guidelines, the SAP Environmental Compliance solution is a platform that allows corporations to define regulatory scenarios with key performance indicators.

Under the partnership EDS will provide its SAP systems integration experience to incorporate the solution into customers’ existing systems to calculate, record, and analyse the carbon emissions across entire organisations – the data then to be used for regulatory reporting.

EDS green practice leader Asia Pacific, Sundeep Khristy, said the partnership was a natural progression for its green processes roadmap.

“Our goal has been to make IT itself green, and then use IT to green an organisation’s business,” Khristy said. “Looking at organisations' business operations was the next stage for us, and as we had a strong relationship with SAP the capabilities were already there. When it comes to larger scale organisations the Environment Compliance product is very capable.”

The partnership was still in its early stages, Khristy said, with the two organisations in discussions for the past six or seven months.

The launch of the Environmental Compliance solution coincided with the Government’s introduction of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act in May 2008, which is to apply to 700 medium and large companies.

Both vendors are also respondents to the Carbon Disclosure Project – an initiative that collects data on greenhouse gas emissions.
