Harris heads for ComputerCorp

WA-based services outfit, ComputerCorp, has appointed Paul Harris as state manager for Victoria. He joins the company from Volante, where he was employed as national infrastructure manager.

The announcement comes less than a month after telecommunications company, Commander, made its desire to acquire Volante public knowledge. The two are currently engaged in hostile takeover sparring but Harris insisted his moving on was part of an established career plan. He had been at Volante for two years.

"I didn't part on bad terms," he said. "This is a career change and, in terms of me growing and going to the next level, I wanted to go somewhere fresh."

ComputerCorp's previous state manager for Victoria, Rod Durston, has moved back to Western Australia as a company director.

Harris will now focus on growing the company's business in and around Melbourne.

ComputerCorp managing director, Hugh Smith, said the company chose Harris because of his experience and expertise.

"This recruitment is part of ongoing business development in Victoria," he said.

"Our main objective is to develop a national footprint and we have almost achieved that. The honeymoon is over and we are down to serious business."

The company is also looking for state managers in South Australia and Queensland. The Smart State had been managed by Karl Pickering, but he has also headed back to WA in the company reshuffle.

"We have established our offices and we're building on that to take the company to the next phase," Smith said.

"As the business grows, we've had to make some changes to sides that are becoming unsustainable. We are always looking at introducing new skills sets, providing a mix of different services and products."
