Optus subsidiary, Alphawest, has completed the first stages of a contract with Jetstar to implement an information management solution.
The integrator's Victorian general manger, Rob Szymanski, said the contract involved replacing a paper-based system in accounts payable, customer services, human resources and crew records with an electronic business platform. The rollout took six months to complete. Financial terms were not disclosed.
"We spent some time analysing what they needed and we came back with a solution, which we had to prove through some demonstrations," he said. "Jetstar had to get approval from CASA to see if they could utilise this type of technology. It is a company that watches its pennies, so we had to be delivering a highly cost-effective solution."
Szymanski said Alphawest had elected to employ the Trim Context enterprise content management system developed by Australian-based Tower Software.
"We are highly skilled in the Trim product and were able to put together a good data depository based solution for their work flow processes that we were building," he said.
Even though it was not a financially large deal, Szymanski said the services Alphawest were providing to Jetstar added prestige to its portfolio. "It is strategically important as it takes us into business process improvement," he said.
The deal is part of a broader upgrade of the airline's internal management infrastructure. Alphawest was currently discussing the second phase of the contract with Jetstar, Szymanski said.
"The next phase now is to work with them and go through their financial processes," he said. "We haven't won that yet but we are talking to them about it as the next step."
